My name is Janice Evans and I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer with lymph node involvement in July 1970 at the age of 25. I had a modified radical mastectomy on the right side, no reconstruction because the doctors said I would not survive. This was 46 years ago, so I wasn’t told what kind of cancer other than stage 4 breast cancer. In 2004, 34 years later I was diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer. It was caused by the radiation I had taken for the breast cancer. Doctors said the 2 cancers weren’t related, just the radiation. (Girls if you have radiation make sure you get a chest x-ray when you get your yearly mammogram.)
I have to say something about my wonderful husband Rifton who has stood by me thru everything. My husband and I have been married 53 years in April, so you see Rifton has been there for me all these years. Without God and Rifton I know I would not be here today. I thank God for hearing and answering prayers and thank my husband for standing by my side and encouraging me to Never give up! Hope I didn’t bore you all, but I pray I have encouraged someone along the way!
*Janice Evans is the longest stage 4 cancer survivor documented in the United States!!
