Every Monday night the Jones family makes time to meet together for family home evening. During this time they usually have a lesson, treat, and a family council. Last night their lesson was on what to do in case of an emergency. They made a plan for what to do in a tornado, fire, and how to dial 9-1-1. The children have also been working on memorizing their address and phone number.
Afterwards they decided to take some of cookies they had made earlier in the afternoon to their local fire department. They knocked on the firehouse door and when they answered they told the firemen how thankful they were for all that they do for their community and gave them the cookies. The firemen were very grateful and even gave the family a tour of their firehouse including letting the children “drive” the firetruck and turn on the flashing lights. The firemen also quizzed the children on what to do in a fire. What started as a day to serve the firemen ended up being a night the Jones children will never forget.
As luck would have it the very next day the Jones family had a tornado warning but they all knew exactly what to do.
